The portraits of Zimbabwe have been brought about through the support of the U.S. Embassy. The exhibit will be jointly curated by Jennifer Kyker, who holds dual positions as an associate professor of ethnomusicology at the Eastman School of Music and as an associate professor of music in the College Music Department at the University of Rochester, along with Fadzai Muchemwa, the curator of contemporary art at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. Ogun Disburses $90K to 33 Sports Associations for Upcoming International Games

To ensure a successful organization and thorough readiness for the upcoming National Sports Festival known as Gateway Games 2024, the Ogun State government handed out cheques worth N500,000 each to 33 sports associations within the state on Wednesday.

The 22nd National Sports Festival is scheduled for May 16 to 30 in the state.

The state athletes participating in the festival are anticipated to begin closed-door training immediately.

During the presentation of checks at the June 12 Cultural Center, the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, emphasized that this financial backing highlighted the administration's firm dedication to ensuring the success of their team at the sporting event.

"I'm thrilled to share that Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has generously agreed to provide N500,000 in support for each of the 33 sports associations taking part in the festival," Talabi stated.

The Governor has approved a new framework and procedure aimed at accelerating sports development.

The SSG emphasized that the subsidy is not something to be distributed freely among everyone; rather, it serves as a means to guarantee proper preparations for the state athletes participating in the festival.

“It behoves you all to give an account of all these little gestures. I think it is going to be once or twice in the first instance, and then we will see the feedback; and if the feedback is good, it is not an opportunity for largesse, and that is why the Governor is also putting the responsibility on the Commissioner for Sports Development.

"The government, particularly the offices of the Secretary to the State Government and the Governor via the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, will establish a system to review the feedback generated from our various initiatives. This will allow us to refine them and ensure their sustainability," he concluded.

He observed that the National Sports Festival provided Ogun with an opportunity to establish a robust framework for sports growth within the state. Furthermore, he mentioned that owing to its modern sporting infrastructure, Ogun has earned significant recognition amongst various regions.

He said, “Don’t be mischievous; you know sometimes, some people will just, for no reason, go on social media. It is not the way to get development; it is sensationalism. In the past, some of those people who have done that have confirmed that they wanted their social handles to get the needed traffic.

However, when you provide constructive criticism, we are prepared and eager to accept it.
