National Gallery of Zimbabwe Set to Showcase 80 Photographic Masterpieces

Starting May 30, the National Gallery of Zimbabwe will host "Portraits of Zimbabwe," an exhibit featuring more than 80 photographic prints by the late photographer Chicago Dzviti. The portraits of Zimbabwe have been brought about through the support of the U.S. Embassy. The exhibit will be jointly curated by Jennifer Kyker, who holds dual positions as an associate professor of ethnomusicology at the Eastman School of Music and as an associate professor of music in the College Music Department at the University of Rochester, along with Fadzai Muchemwa, the curator of contemporary art at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. Dzviti was born in Shamva in 1961, and from this rustic background, he cultivated an interest in photography. He further honed his skills at Harare Polytechnic starting in 1987. Barau Donates N16M to Victims' Families Following Uromi Killings

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, on Wednesday, visited Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State to sympathise with the families of the 16 travellers tragically killed in Uromi, Esan North East LGA of Edo State.

While visiting, Senator Barau convened with the bereaved relatives hailing from Bunkure, Kibiya, Rano, and Garko Local Government Areas, gathering at the At-Taqwa Mosque located in the Sabon Fegi region of Bunkure LGA.

He was joined by prominent individuals such as the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, the Managing Director of the North West Development Commission, Prof. Abdullahi Shehu Ma'aji, along with various officials.

According to a statement issued by his Special Advisor for Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, which was provided to The PUNCH, Senator Barau assured the victims' families that those responsible for the murders will face justice.

He notified the families that besides the 14 suspects who were earlier detained, law enforcement authorities have caught two additional persons linked to the vicious assault.

In an effort to aid the families affected, Senator Barau pledged a sum of N16 million, distributing N1 million to each of the 16 households involved.

"I have come to express my condolences for the heartbreaking event that took the lives of 16 of our brothers last Thursday. May Allah grant them Paradise and hasten the healing of those who were wounded," Barau stated during his visit.

The Deputy Senate President also expressed his concern over the incident, stating that he had immediately contacted the state governor, security agencies, and relevant stakeholders, urging them to take swift action.

He comforted the families with assurances of justice: "This matter won't be taken lightly. We'll make sure those responsible are held accountable and suffer the full force of the legal system."

On behalf of the grieving families, the local Chief Imam, Sheikh Zainul Abidina Auwal, expressed appreciation to Senator Barau for his endeavors in pursuing justice.

He similarly commended the senator, characterizing him as the kind of leadership the nation requires for advancement and growth.
