The portraits of Zimbabwe have been brought about through the support of the U.S. Embassy. The exhibit will be jointly curated by Jennifer Kyker, who holds dual positions as an associate professor of ethnomusicology at the Eastman School of Music and as an associate professor of music in the College Music Department at the University of Rochester, along with Fadzai Muchemwa, the curator of contemporary art at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. Waymo's Robotaxis Accumulate $65,000 in Fines: The San Francisco Challenge

Google's autonomous vehicles were issued more than 600 parking tickets and other fines in the previous year.

  • Last year, Waymo's autonomous taxi service accumulated significant penalties in San Francisco.
  • The robotaxis got 589 parking tickets and 124 tickets for obstructing traffic.

Waymo's autonomous vehicles have been cruising through multiple U.S. cities for several years now. These self-driving cars have proven quite effective; the firm mentioned earlier this year that they are providing services in at least 200,000 paid autonomous rides per week —double compared to last year.

However, perfection is unattainable. This holds particularly true for Waymo’s autonomous driving technology. Jaguar I-Pace EVs, which accumulated as much as $65,065 in penalties last year. just In San Francisco, the autonomous taxis disrupted traffic flow, violated street cleaning regulations, and were found parked in restricted zones.

As reported by The Washington Post Last year, the autonomous electric vehicles accumulated 589 parking tickets in San Francisco. Moreover, an extra 75 citations were handed out to Waymo’s cabs in Los Angeles, with $543 worth of penalties remaining unpaid. They ceased honking at one another. , so that’s good.)

"I treated it with the same consideration as if someone were inside the vehicle," explained Sterling Haywood, a seasoned San Francisco parking control officer with 17 years of experience. The Washington Post Haywood was attempting to persuade a Waymo robotaxi to start moving as it was stationed in a prohibited area due to street cleaning regulations. The parking enforcement officer sounded their horn twice, yet the vehicle remained stationary, prompting them to issue a $96 citation and place it on the windshield.

Waymo mentioned that they consistently pay for the citations and are working on enhancing their vehicles' capabilities “to better prevent parking tickets," as stated by company spokesperson Ethan Teicher and reported by The Washington Post The autonomous Jaguars have the ability to identify if they're obstructing traffic and can spot available parking spots. However, occasionally they might temporarily halt at a commercial loading area to let passengers out. When not in use between trips, these self-driving taxis can make short stops if they find themselves outside of a designated Waymo parking facility.

Waymo is presently the leading entity in the U.S. robotaxi industry following General Motors ’s Cruise venture died towards the end of last year GM CEO Mary Barra stated that "Operating a Robotaxi service is not at the heart of what General Motors does." This remark was made following the company’s investment of $10 billion in the autonomous driving taxi venture over multiple years.
