Vietnam Airlines Bolsters Global Reach with Expanded International Routes

Vietnam Airlines is introducing new routes and boosting flight frequency to India, Indonesia, and Russia, whereas Vietjet Air is expanding into new locations in China, Japan, and Singapore.
Starting May 1, Vietnam Airlines plans to launch two new international routes from Hanoi to India, including flights to Bengaluru and Hyderabad beginning on May 1 and May 7 respectively. Each of these destinations will be serviced with 3-4 weekly return trips. Before introducing these new routes, Vietnam Airlines was already providing non-stop services between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Delhi and Mumbai, having facilitated over 1,600 flights and transported more than 240,000 travelers up until now.
In May, Vietnam Airlines plans to restart its Hanoi-Moscow service following a three-year pause caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict. At first, the carrier will run two weekly flights. Russia has consistently played an important role as a destination for Vietnamese tourism and commerce. This non-stop connection between Hanoi and Moscow should boost links and aid in reviving the aviation and tourist sectors of both nations.
Beginning June 1, Vietnam Airlines plans to introduce non-stop services linking Ho Chi Minh City with Bali (Indonesia). These flights will operate four times weekly. Starting in July, this service will expand to seven round trips each week. Upon implementation, this new route will mark Vietnam Airlines’ second direct connection between Vietnam and Indonesia, complementing their current Hanoi-Jakarta flight.
On July 1, Vietnam Airlines will begin direct flights between Hanoi and Milan, Italy, operating 3 round trips per week. Tickets for this route are already on sale. This marks the first direct flight from Vietnam to Italy, with plans to launch additional direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Milan after 2025. The Hanoi-Milan route will bring the total number of Vietnam Airlines' direct European routes to 9. The airline currently operates direct flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Paris (France), Frankfurt, Munich (Germany), and London (U.K.).
Besides launching new global connections, Vietnam Airlines plans to boost the number of weekly flights between Hanoi and Manila, Philippines, from three to seven, beginning in April. Additionally, the airline will modify the schedule for the Ho Chi Minh City-Manila route to offer four flights each week.
Vietnam Airlines plans to launch 15 new international routes in 2025, including destinations in Russia, Italy, Denmark, China, India, Japan, South Korea, and the UAE.
The budget carrier Vietjet is broadening its route map to include new destinations in China, Japan, India, and Singapore.
In March, Vietjet introduced new flights from Hanoi to Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai in China, as well as from Ho Chi Minh City to Beijing, Guangzhou also in China, along with Hyderabad and Bangalore in India.
Starting April 24, Vietjet will operate a new route from Ho Chi Minh City to Nagoya (Japan), with 4 round trips per week. The Ho Chi Minh City-Fukuoka route will start on April 25 with three weekly flights. These two new routes will bring the total number of Vietjet's weekly flights connecting Vietnam to Japan to 138, covering Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Hiroshima.
Starting from May 30, Vietjet Air will launch a new service between Singapore and Phu Quoc, offering four weekly return flights. This addition marks their fourth route linking Singapore to Vietnam, after establishing connections to Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam reports that the nation’s aviation sector is anticipated to keep recuperating throughout 2025, projecting an approximate expansion rate of 8%. Nonetheless, several hurdles persist for this industry, such as a scarcity of airplanes compounded by engine recalls from Pratt & Whitney, leading to the grounding of the entire A321 fleet. Additionally, soaring fuel costs resulting from worldwide tensions add further complexity to these issues.
Airlines have leased and acquired new planes to augment their fleets. At present, the total number of airplanes in Vietnam's fleet surpasses 200, marking an uptick of roughly 10 from the previous year.
