National Gallery of Zimbabwe Set to Showcase 80 Photographic Masterpieces

Starting May 30, the National Gallery of Zimbabwe will host "Portraits of Zimbabwe," an exhibit featuring more than 80 photographic prints by the late photographer Chicago Dzviti. The portraits of Zimbabwe have been brought about through the support of the U.S. Embassy. The exhibit will be jointly curated by Jennifer Kyker, who holds dual positions as an associate professor of ethnomusicology at the Eastman School of Music and as an associate professor of music in the College Music Department at the University of Rochester, along with Fadzai Muchemwa, the curator of contemporary art at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. Dzviti was born in Shamva in 1961, and from this rustic background, he cultivated an interest in photography. He further honed his skills at Harare Polytechnic starting in 1987. This initiated a career spanning nearly ten years, notable for vividly portraying various aspects of Zimbabwean life. The narrative captured societal norms,...

BYD Unveils 5-Minute Electric Vehicle Charging Revolution, Explored

China keeps dominating the U.S. in the electric vehicle market. Also: Our take on the Cadillac Escalade IQ.

For better or worse, most drivers are still bound by the gas station paradigm. You know, drive the car until it's almost empty, then go to a gas station and fill up. Electric vehicle veterans know that the many different ways you can charge open up new possibilities, but for most folks, the idea that an EV can't "fill up" as fast as a gas car is an instant dealbreaker.

I can’t fault them for feeling that way. Electric vehicles have just begun to become commonplace, whereas gasoline cars have been around for a hundred years. Despite improvements in public charging experiences in both the U.S. and Europe every year, China’s electric vehicle industry remains far more advanced.

In this week's installment of the Plugged-In Podcast , my co-host Tim Levin and I are covering two topics related to charging. The first is BYD's apparent breakthrough in five-minute DC fast charging , beginning with two new electric vehicles priced at approximately $38,000 each. This technological advancement garnered worldwide attention and has caused numerous investors to question whether Western car manufacturers will be able to close the gap with Chinese competitors.

Next, we move to a Consumer Reports study That indicates the American DC public fast-charging experience remains subpar for most users, except those with Teslas. Shocking, right?

A lot of networks have been improving, but others, such as Shell Recharge, operate so badly at times that one might jokingly question whether these are secretly anti-electric vehicle initiatives orchestrated by petroleum firms. (I am only half-serious about this notion though.)

Finally, we wrap up by getting Tim's impressions of The new Cadillac Escalade IQ We understand it might seem odd coming from EV enthusiasts, but we genuinely enjoy the Escalade. It’s imposing, dominant, and unmatched when it comes to comfort. Fortunately, an electric variant is now available that delivers on all these aspects even more impressively—provided you can afford it.
