National Gallery of Zimbabwe Set to Showcase 80 Photographic Masterpieces

Starting May 30, the National Gallery of Zimbabwe will host "Portraits of Zimbabwe," an exhibit featuring more than 80 photographic prints by the late photographer Chicago Dzviti. The portraits of Zimbabwe have been brought about through the support of the U.S. Embassy. The exhibit will be jointly curated by Jennifer Kyker, who holds dual positions as an associate professor of ethnomusicology at the Eastman School of Music and as an associate professor of music in the College Music Department at the University of Rochester, along with Fadzai Muchemwa, the curator of contemporary art at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. Dzviti was born in Shamva in 1961, and from this rustic background, he cultivated an interest in photography. He further honed his skills at Harare Polytechnic starting in 1987. Mike Weir makes history as he becomes both the inaugural Canadian major champion and the first left-handed player to triumph at the Masters. He clinched victory in their 12th playoff during this prestigious tournament when he achieved a bogey on the 10th hole, marking the initial extra round play against Len Mattiace. This marked the first time they had needed a playoff since way back in 1990. Notably, Weir secured entry into the additional rounds with a crucial 7-foot putt for par, whereas Mattiace faltered slightly by dropping a stroke due to a bogey right before what could have been an impressive finish following his remarkable performance throughout Sunday’s game.
